Manor, Texas Home To Austin Energy’s First Solar Farm
The Webberville Solar Project located off Weberville Road in Manor began operation in December of 2011. At the time, this 35-megawatt (MW) solar power plant was one of the largest in Austin and across Texas, as well.

Project Details:
35 MW-DC / 30 MW-AC
127,278 PV solar modules
2,400 rows of trackers
19 inverters
Operational since 2011, official ribbon cutting on January 6, 2012
Annual Output: Over 50,000 MWh or enough energy to power 5,000 homes
Webberville Solar’s modules are mounted on a single-axis tracking system that rotates in the East-West direction with the sun’s position in the sky in order to optimize electricity production throughout the day.
The project site is located one mile from Austin Energy’s Austrop substation, which receives the power generated from the solar farm and puts it to work into the local electricity grid.
At the time of construction this 35 MW farm was one of the largest solar projects in Texas. Fast forward to today, however, and solar power plants commonly exceed 100 MW, an indication of the dramatic reduction in the cost of solar that has simultaneously helped projects grow bigger and bigger over time.

In 2017 Austin Energy began receiving solar energy from the East Pecos Solar Facility in Pecos County, Texas. This is a 120 MW power plant consisting of approximately 1.2 million solar panels on a 1,000-acre plot.
“Austin Energy’s customers are getting almost a third of their electricity from renewable resources. We’re on track to meet the goal of 55 percent renewable energy by 2025 while meeting the affordability parameters set by the City Council. This summer, the sun’s going to heat things up, but thanks to Austin’s leadership on solar energy, the sun’s also going to power the air conditioners and ceiling fans to cool us down.” – Austin Mayor Steve Adler
