Five municipalities in Texas announced a deal to develop 500 megawatts (MW) worth of solar power plants in September. New Braunfels Utilities, Bryan Texas Utilities, Denton Municipal Electric, Garland Power & Light and the Kerryville Public Utility Board have all teamed up to increase their renewable energy generation.
A new report released by Wood Mackenzie and the Solar Energy Industries Association in September shows how fast the solar industry is growing in Texas. In just the first three months of 2018, solar electricians around the state installed as much new power generation capacity from solar as was installed during all of 2017. The solar industry has created nearly 9,000 jobs in Texas, according to the report.
And finally in September, a homebuilding company unveiled their new ‘energy-free, maintenance-free’ community in Frisco Texas. Homes will feature rooftop solar panel installations and building materials that should not require upkeep or major repairs down the line. The model home of the community uses 40 solar panels, and had a $27 dollar power bill credit in July.
