Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
We live in deep south Texas, north of a rural community named Santa Rosa. We finished construction on our house in April, 2016, but my family has lived in this area since 1916. After spending 25 years in Houston, my wife and I decided to move to south Texas and build an energy efficient house at our farm.
Why did you decide to switch to solar energy?
Long before we began building, we knew we wanted to go solar. Our house in Houston was almost 3,000 sq. ft. and we consistently paid $600 a month in electricity alone. We knew we could, and should, do much better with the new house.
How much did you know about solar energy?
Nothing more than it came from the sun 🙂

What kind of system did Alba Energy install for your home?
Alba installed a 12.48 kW system on our home with 48 solar panels. It should give us at least 75% power offset each year.
What made you choose Alba Energy for your solar installation?
I chose Alba after searching in my area for a good company. I spoke with Jennifer and was immediately impressed with her knowledge and help. She understood our needs and worked up a plan that fit us perfectly. Luckily, Alba had just opened their McAllen office, which is local to me.
What was the process of going solar like?
Once the install was completed, the process was no different than having the power company come out and turn it on.
What was the most difficult part of the solar process for you?
Honestly, the most difficult part of the process was dealing with the lender! After a few false starts, we finally found one that worked for us. Apparently, one must actually LIVE in the house that is being considered for the install and subsequent loan. Since we were building our house, we couldn’t occupy it.
What benefits have you seen from going solar?
“The greatest benefit seen has been going from a $600 monthly bill, to a negative $11 bill in the Valley heat. And it’s a bigger house!”
What would you say to someone who is skeptical about going solar?
I’d tell them to forget their skepticism and make a call to Alba. For real. No kidding. There’s no reason not to go solar.
