Alba Energy Blog: Texas Solar Power Industry Had Biggest Quarter Ever

Great news for solar enthusiasts in Texas! A new industry report from GTM Research and the SEIA released in September found that solar panel installations in Texas grew 17-fold during the previous 12 month period! 24 percent of the state’s new power capacity in Q2 2017 was solar, setting the tone for another great year of power generation from clean, renewable sources.

Alba Energy Blog: Solar Panel Import Tariffs Coming In 2018

A solar panel import trade case is unfolding in America, the result of which could lead to tariffs and higher costs on solar installs. Most solar companies and utilities oppose the tariffs because they will kill thousands of domestic jobs, but two solar manufacturers – Suniva and SolarWorld – have lobbied the International Trade Commission for price protection on their products. Ironically, both manufacturers are owned by foreign companies, and many industry analysts are calling this ruling an opportunity for those foreign investors to receive a bail-out.

Texas Standard: San Antonio Boosts Clean Energy Efforts

San Antonio’s newly elected Mayor Ron Nirenberg is pledging that San Antonio will develop a plan to locally reduce the fossil fuel emissions that are heating up the atmosphere, changing weather and affecting health. Nirenberg is one of over 300 U.S. mayors around the country who are supporting measures to improve air pollution from fossil fuel based power generation, calling for these plants to be replaced with clean, renewable options like solar and wind. San Antonio’s municipally owned electric utility, CPS Energy, currently offers a number of solar rebates and incentive programs designed to financially reward local citizens for making the switch to solar. CPS also uses big solar farm installations to provide clean energy to the city.

The meeting was part of a 23-city tour through the Lone Star State lead by Public Citizen, a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization, to begin a conversation about climate change. “We are encouraging the city to purchase clean energy from utilities instead of fossil fuel electricity. We can do simple things like changing light bulbs, using efficient appliances, and transportation by using electric or hybrid cars or a more efficient car,” said Luis Castilla, the groups Press Officer.
