Here’s What You Can Learn About SOLAR From APPLE
Apple Inc. is one of the world’s largest electronics producers, but did you know they are also one of the largest users of solar power?
According to a 2015 report on the top solar powered companies by the Solar Energy Industry Association, Apple ranks third with a reported 60.7 megawatts (MW) of solar power capacity. They currently use renewable energy technology like wind turbines and solar panels to power 93% of their facilities.
And according to their website, Apple seeks to use 100% renewable energy to power their operations in America and across the globe!
We know that climate change is real. Our view is that the time for talk has passed, and the time for action is now.”Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO
Apple’s New Campus To Feature MASSIVE Solar Roof
Last year, Apple announced they were investing $800+ million dollars into a huge solar panel installation to provide renewable energy to their new HQ in Cupertino. Today, we can see that construction is underway on both the new building and the new solar roof.

Apple is expecting to generate about 75% of the power needed for the facility through solar panels and biogas fuel cells.
So, What Apple Can Teach You About Solar?
Apple reportedly brought in $231 Billion dollars in revenue in 2015, with $53 Billion of that kept as net profit. They are able to make vast amounts of money each year because they make smart business decisions.
Producing your own energy is smarter than “renting” it from the local utility, and going solar is allowing Apple to produce their own electricity and save millions of dollars while doing so.
In fact, they produce so much of their own energy using renewables that they recently applied to the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to be able to sell their excess power to locations across America.
Apple is installing massive amounts of solar panels at a time when costs have come down to record lows.
Additionally, Apple is taking advantage of available Rebates & Incentives which bring down costs even further. Currently, a 30% Federal Tax Credit is available to both businesses and homeowners who go solar now through 2019. This essentially equates to a 30% off SALE on solar!
Finally, by going solar Apple is driving corporate sustainability and setting an example that many other large corporations will follow. Their installations will offset TONS of pounds of CO2 (literally tons), making a huge positive effect on the environment.
The Bottom Line
The takeaway here is that going solar saves both money and the environment. If you have not looked into going solar, well, take it from Apple that it’s a pretty smart decision.
